Sacramento Gold Flexes its Offensive Power vs CD Aguiluchos with a 4-1 Win on the Road!

OAKLAND, Calif. -- The weather was chilly and wet after storming but the Sacramento Gold brought the real storm after the calm to Raimondi Park in Oakland, CA.

Sacramento started off the game at a fast pace and playing attractive soccer, however, it was CD Aguiluchos (CDA) who struck first early in the game. After a foul by the Gold, Rudis Corrales of CDA blasted a direct kick into the upper left corner to put the home side up.

The Gold continued to play well and continued to pressure the home side. It was moments later that the Gold tied the game on a great build up that had Manolo Pina taking the ball up the right side of the field and crossed a ball to Jason Jones who let the ball run between his legs to Jose “Cuco” Martinez. Cuco took a touch and placed a beautiful bent ball past a diving CDA goalkeeper. The 200+ fans were silenced as they had been beating their drums and cheering on the home side.

The Gold struck again moments later when Manolo Pina recorded another assist. This time Manolo put a long throw-in into the box from the right side and it was Eliot Chambers who flicked the ball in off the top of his head into the left corner of the goal. The teams went in to the half with the Gold leading 2-1.

The second half started pretty much the same way as the Gold dictated the game and continued to be dangerous on the attack. There were a number of close scoring opportunities by the Gold as the game continued.

The Gold finally struck again, this time it was from a direct kick on a double header. Nico Brioso took a free kick from the right side placing a ball to the far left of the goal box and it was Jason Jones who headed the ball back across the goal to Cuco who slammed it home off his head to the right side of the goal.

The crowd was once again silenced and the Goal took command of the game as the flood gates opened and the Gold smelled more goals. This time it was Manolo who took a perfectly weighted through ball from Cuco. Manolo clinically finished by blasting a low shot past the CDA keeper.

The game ended with a 4-1 victory for the Gold but the action wasn’t over as the hostile crowd screamed obscenities and threatened the Gold players near the end of the game and right after the game. Armed security had to escort the Gold players and coaches out of the park and into the locker rooms to safety. No one was injured and the Gold players were grateful for security.

The Gold’s next match will be an exhibition vs Delta Junior College this Saturday April 5th at Cosumnes River College in South Sacramento. Admission will be free.
