Gold Smash San Jose, Score 7! Jones gets 5 Goals!!

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- On a cold night in San Jose, the Sacramento Gold didn't take long to bring the heat to Real San Jose (RSJ).

Within the third minute of the game, Gold forward Jason Jones began his torment of RSJ by out jumping the goal keeper and heading in a long diagonal cross from the right side of the field by Edric Soltero.

Exactly 10 minutes later, Jones received a perfectly weighted through ball from midfielder Nico Brioso for a breakaway. Jones clinically slotted the ball past a charging goal keeper giving the Gold a 2-0 lead.

The Gold seemed to have taken the game over by this time as they had numerous goal scoring opportunities just miss. It was on the 35 minute of the match when the Gold strung together a series of one touch passes from the left side of the attacking third part of the field to the right and then it was Diego DeAlba who floated a ball over a flat RSJ defensive line to a wide open Jose "Cuco" Martinez who headed the ball in to the goal past the goal keeper. The Gold took a 3-0 lead into the half. The second half started a little slow as RSJ made a change at the goal keeper position. It was on the 56th minute when Jones took a combination pass from Gold midfielders and laid off a ball to Abrahm Prado who played the ball back across the goal box from the left side. Jones calmly slotted a low shot away to record his third goal of the match.

Ten minutes later, it seemed almost a replay but this time Prado took a ball up the end line from the right side and played a negative ball across the penalty box to Jones who took a touch to free himself from turned defenders and once again slotted an instep shot past the goal keeper.

At 5-0, RSJ had been beaten but continued to work hard testing Gold goal keeper John Connolly several times from different angles and multiple crosses but weren't able to get anything past Connolly.

As the game came to a close, Gold outside midfielder Josue Araiza played an excellent pass behind the RSJ defensive line onto a Jones diagonal run. Jones took the pass and dribbled past the goal keeper and tapped in what was his fifth goal of the game setting a Sacramento Gold record for most goals in one game.

Several minutes later, Jones beat a RSJ defender onto a long pass from Gold midfielder Enrique Fragoso. Jones dribbled towards the keeper from the right side of the field then laid off a negative pass to the left side of the field onto the stride of Araiza who slammed the ball in for his first goal of the year and closing the books for the game.

The Gold picked up an important three points on the road and return home to play for first place next Saturday night at River City HS for a 7pm match versus the San Francisco Stompers.
