Sacramento Gold FC goalkeeper John Connolly has been named to the 2015 All-NPSL Second Team, the league announced today.
The Gold's starting keeper was one of five West Region players (all from the Golden Gate Conference) to be selected for league-wide honors. The All-NPSL First and Second teams were voted on last week by members of the media who covered the league this season. Each team consists of a goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders, and three forwards.
Connolly, who joined the Gold before the 2014 season, was a crucial part of Sacramento's success this year. His stellar and often timely saves played a big role in Sacramento earning a third consecutive trip to the NPSL West Region Final.
This is Connolly's second league-wide honor this season. He was chosen as the first Mitre National Player of the Week for the 2015 NPSL season after his incredible 15-save effort in the Gold's 3-0 win in the opener against the San Francisco Stompers.
After a stellar college career at LIU Brooklyn, Connolly moved to California in 2014. Having played for the NPSL's Brooklyn Italians, Connolly tried out for and made Sacramento's squad before helping the team to conference and regional titles last season.
