Sacramento Gold FC made its 2017 NPSL debut this past weekend, but it wasn't the only one. In fact, the Gold's next opponent made history of its own Saturday. Here's a recap of last week's games, as well as a look at what's in store this week.
GOLDEN GATE CONFERENCE
NAPA, Calif. -- Napa Valley 1839 FC began their inaugural season in the National Premier Soccer League with a disappointing 2-1 loss to CD Aguiluchos USA, but the team showed it has plenty to build on moving forward.
Napa opened up the game and their season with an early 10’ goal as the team’s lead striker Bryan Marin chased down a long ball behind the Aguiluchos’ defense, then found Francisco Mendoza just outside of the six-yard box, who slotted it past the keeper to give Napa Valley 1839 its first NPSL goal as a club.
The Aguiluchos attack was not dissuaded by the quick goal however, and in the 26’ 2016 NPSL Golden Boot winner Simon Rawnsley raced to beat the Napa back line on a long ball, and beat Napa goalkeeper Roberto Llamas on the near post to tie the game at 1-1.
The Aguiluchos newfound momentum did not last long, as just minutes after the Aguiluchos equalizer, midfielder Leopoldo Morales was sent off with a straight red card after kicking a downed Napa player. The match official immediately pulled the red card out of his back pocket, and the Aguiluchos were down to ten men for the remainder of the match.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -- The Southern California Sports Club fought hard and controlled a good part of the match, but was defeated by National Premier Soccer League’s (NPSL) Southwest Conference leaders Deportivo Coras 2-1 on its first ever home game at the Fairplex and home opener on Saturday.
Juan Victor Aguilar and Ramon Nunez scored for the visitors while Andy Contreras, SoCal SC’s oldest player at 26, found the back of the net for the home side on a free kick to make Deportivo Coras concede a goal for the first time in the season.
Deportivo Coras is only team of the Conference to win all of its three games and leads the standing with nine points while SoCal SC, who played only two matches, sits fourth with the three points amassed on the 5-1 season opener win over City of Angels FC.

MESA, Ariz. -- FC Arizona extended its undefeated streak to three matches following tonight's 1-0 victory over the defending Southwest Conference champions Albion SC Pros.
FC Arizona is now second in the NPSL Southwest Conference and has kicked off its inaugural season allowing zero goals through three matches. Tonight's goal scorer was Ignacio Coba on a free kick in the 30th minute.
Looking to make a statement, FC Arizona stormed out of the gates led by Ari Sanchez who had two early shots (2nd and 9th minutes) that were both deflected out for corners. FC Arizona continued to push and scored what would be the match winner in the 30th minute on Coba's free kick from 35 yards out.

OXNARD, Calif. -- Del Sol Stadium on March 25th was the site of the long awaited inaugural home match for the Guerreros of Oxnard. They played host to fellow West Region team Temecula FC, who came into the game with only one point to their name after two games.
Oxnard coming off two tough road losses were looking to get back on the right track in front of a packed crowd of over 350.
“We wanted to play a more possession style play because we know that’s the style of football that Oxnard likes,” Head Coach Julio Cesar Gomez De La Torre said in an interview with Joe Curley of the Ventura County Star.
The Guerreros were able to execute what they set out to do as they held the ball for a majority of both halves, which was a big reason to getting the 2-0 result at home.

CHINO, Calif. -- The match between Corinthians USA and City of Angels FC was a well-played battle between two strong Southwest Conference teams.
The first half began with both teams attacking strongly with great passing and shots on goal. Hugo Polanco was the first to strike for Corinthians in the 15th minute, scoring off a fast counter attack. The action continued with both sides pushing for another goal, but it was Corinthians that scored again in the 25th minute when midfielder Guilherme Andrade scored off a beautiful strike. Andrade is best known as the son of the current president of the Corinthians team in Brazil’s First Division. The first half would finish with the same 2-0 advantage to Corinthians.
