Sacramento Gold FC forward Matt Wiesenfarth is jumping up to the professional level, but will remain in California's capital city. Wiesenfarth has signed with Sacramento Republic FC of the United Soccer League (USL).
Wiesenfarth joins Republic FC after a stellar season with the Gold. Despite only playing in six of Sacramento's 12 regular season games, Wiesenfarth led the team in goals, with nine. That total includes two hat tricks, the first of which leading to Wiesenfarth being named the Mitre NPSL National Player of the Weekin April and the second to a spot on the Football Manager NSPL Team of the Week in June. Wiesenfarth also earned a spot in the2017 Midfield Press Golden Gate Conference Best XI.
Wiesenfarth is also the third Gold player to sign with Republic FC, after goalkeeper Dominik Jakubek and midfielder Max Alvarez joined the inaugural squad in 2014.
