Statement on 2020 NPSL Season

Dear Sacramento Gold fans,

Today, the National Premier Soccer League announced that the remainder of the 2020 season has been canceled due to the restrictions and uncertainty related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The health and safety of players, coaches, staff, fans and others involved with Sacramento Gold FC and the NPSL is of the upmost importance. The NPSL also took concerns such as player eligibility, venue availability, sponsorship situations and scheduling difficulty into consideration before making its final decision, which Sacramento Gold FC fully supports.

Sacramento Gold FC will continue to operate in our current condition for at least the next 30 days, during which time we will discuss with other members of the Golden Gate Conference ways to possibly schedule a shortened season. We would like to keep our great local rivalries going, while providing a light for fans in this dark period the sports world is going through. If such a way is found, it would come with the full support of the NPSL and United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) and follow any and all health guidelines set forth by the State of California and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We hope to have an update on this soon.

Whether or not we return to the field in 2020, Sacramento Gold FC would like to urge everyone to take the threat of COVID-19 seriously and practice all recommendations issued against stopping the spread of the virus. This includes social distancing, washing your hands, disinfecting surfaces and staying at home unless necessary, especially for those with symptoms. We understand many of you may be fearful of the virus and the drastic changes it has brought to society. However, rest assured that we will all get through this together with patience, understanding and support for each other. There are many golden years ahead of us.
